Blurb of Shine & Shadow by Eva Chase
Quoted from Amazon:
Our bond has sparked. The truth remains hidden…
Despite my best intentions, I’ve bonded with the four fated mates I meant to avoid. The men who look and sound so much like the lovers I left behind in my old reality… but who have no idea who I really am.
My attraction to them feels like a betrayal. Dragging them into the deadly mess I’m facing seems like a crime. But the more I try to hold them at a safe distance, the more I question whether that’s only hurting them more.
Can I uncover the conspirators out to murder me without risking the men I’m falling for all over again?
And if I truly open my heart to them… will they want a mate who’s ruined so many lives before?
Shine & Shadow is the second book in a new urban fantasy series with tangled mate bonds, morally grey men who yearn their hearts out, and a fierce heroine determined to make the most of her second chance. There are more books to come.
Urban fantasy romance, why choose, hidden identity, magical academy, alternate universe, high stakes, multiple fated mates, second chance, murder mystery, secrets, magic, mullti POV.
My Review
Shine & Shadow is book two in The Second Fate of Elodie Devine series, and it carries on the momentum from the first book.
I really enjoyed this sequel. It was faster-paced with higher stakes, more magic, deeper mysteries, and stronger relationship development. Secrets were revealed and handled in a mature manner (well mostly, Professor Raith, I’m looking at you), which felt refreshing.
I loved the growing dynamic between the MMCs as they each came to terms with their situation and chose to put Elodie’s well-being first. The quieter character moments sprinkled throughout added an extra layer of intensity, while the spice added emotional depth to their relationships without overshadowing the main plot.
And that ending?! I have so many questions. I can’t wait for the next book!
“Well, this is only as awkward as holding a faerie party in an iron mine.”
