10 Fantasy Romance/Romantasy Books Releasing in May 2026
Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This weeks prompt is a freebie and since it’s the end of the month, I thought we’d take a look at some of the upcoming fantasy romance/romantasy books releasing in May 2026.

May is shaping up to be a strong month for romantasy lovers, with a mix of big-name authors, highly anticipated sequels and some exciting debuts.
I was lucky enough to ARC read a few of the books on this list and can’t wait to get stuck into the rest once they’re available.

Crowned by destiny. Comsumed by revenge.
Against all odds, Meryn Cooper has inherited the crown—and a deadly war. As the Kingdom of Nocturna splinters under the weight of generations of lies, it is up to Meryn, her bonded direwolf Anassa, and their allies to bring the country back from the brink.

Secrets built this republic; one truth could burn it down.
High Priestess Kerasea Vestal has spent her life hiding the truth. But when a senator is brutally killed and a temple blade is found at the scene, all eyes turn to her.
Praetorian Torren Morvane has made a career of dragging liars into the light, and Kerasea is the one person he’s vowed to ruin.
With traitors closing in and a nation on the verge of shattering, Kerasea and Torren must risk everything to uncover the real killer…even if it means trusting their sworn enemy.

A duty-bound prince of flame. A woman shrouded in secrets. And an enemy, deep in the shadows…
When a dark prophecy is stolen from the impenetrable Royal Archives of Emberlyn, Owen Sterling—Prince and Commander of the Ignis Guard—is dispatched with his team to retrieve it. They soon discover the thief is an Obscurem, one of the vicious shadow beasts that have plagued the kingdom for centuries. But how could a creature with such mindless, violent instincts breach their wards?

Lines will be crossed. Loyalties will be tested. And the fight for the continent is only just beginning.
After blowing her cover as a double agent within Silver Elite and fleeing the Prime-controlled capital, Wren Darlington is finally safe behind allied lines. As her lover and former commander Cross Redden works to disrupt the Primes from inside their ranks, Wren turns her focus toward assisting the Uprising in overthrowing their rule once and for all.

When the fae princess needs protecting, there is only one man for the job.
Freija has spent her life shaping herself into the perfect Fjell Fae heir—disciplined, dutiful, and ready to defend her mountain realm. But when a hidden threat rises, the king assigns her a new bodyguard. That’s when her flawless façade begins to crack.

“Moonbeam. A moonfall is coming.”
Raeve’s thirst for vengeance continues to burn, as does her love for Kaan Vaegor—a staunch beacon from a past she’s yet to face. With Rekk’s blood still fresh on her hands, she learns the world will face its most devastating moonfall yet, forcing her to pick a path:
Chase death.
Or life.

They said the trials were over. They were wrong.
I survived the Choosing. I claimed my mates. I became immortal. But the kings weren’t finished with us yet.
Four princes. Four thrones. And a final season designed to decide if we’re worthy to rule. Every task is a test. Every smile is a lie. The people judge. The council votes. And the kings are waiting for us to fail.

Some bonds defy kings. Others defy fate.
Accused of wielding forbidden magic, Ara is marked for execution, while Tate and her family must seek refuge in the mists. When a rival kingdom demands Ara’s extradition, her fate shifts to something far worse.
Desperate and running out of time, Tate will risk treason, war, and the wrath of kings to reach her.

Join the Trials. Fake a Romance. Kill the King.
Ex-assassin Syn Malleore hates kings. The last one poisoned her sister, leaving her to slowly die of a curse. Now that the monarchy has fallen, Syn can finally leave London and return to the Fey realm to search for a magic cure.
But the Fey nobility are already plotting to restore the monarchy. In a hidden court, aristocrats fight to the death in brutal trials to claim the throne.

The rightful queen and her fire-breathing dragon must fight against corruption and overcome the betrayal of the man she loved.
Aemyra Daercathian is a queen on the run. Having failed to take Àird Lasair and betrayed by her husband-whom she grew to trust and was beginning to fall for during her time in captivity-Aemyra is forced to retreat with a raging desire for revenge. But before she can settle the score and fulfill a sacred promise to kill Fiorean, her forces must rest and replenish their strength.
No one can know the truth.
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

We finally got Dire Bound here last month, so I have to read that first! Although I love me a good romantasy, I’m starting to notice these books get more and more similar, no surprises out there. I have a feeling that the market is getting a little too oversaturated.
